FCR benchmarks for broilers

  • 1.4 – 1.6Excellent
  • 1.6 – 1.8Good / standard commercial range
  • Above 1.8Poor efficiency

Benchmarks apply to market-age birds (35–42 days). Young flocks naturally show a lower FCR, so for birds under 28 days the calculator shows FCR without a rating.

How to calculate running FCR

Running FCR tells you how much feed your flock has used for every kilogram of live weight, on any day of the batch.

Running FCR = Total feed consumed (kg) ÷ (Live birds × Avg. weight in kg)
  1. Count the birds alive today.
  2. Weigh a sample of birds and take the average weight.
  3. Add up all feed used since placement (1 bag = 50 kg).
  4. Divide total feed by total live weight.

Worked example

Live birds
4,850
Avg. weight
2,400 g = 2.4 kg
Total live weight
4,850 × 2.4 = 11,640 kg
Feed consumed
368 bags × 50 = 18,400 kg

FCR = 18,400 ÷ 11,640 = 1.581, which is Excellent for a market-age flock.
